McWe Foundation: Wine Appreciation Course


To enter the magic kingdom of wine, you first need to learn something about wine. McWe Foundation split into 2 sessions including a recreational approach to explain various enjoyable aspects in wine, including the following topics:

  • Introduction to wine types and styles
  • Common grape varieties & major wine producing regions
  • Wine tasting techniques
  • Factors affecting the taste of Wine
  • Introduction to wine labeling leading to wine selection
  • How to serve and preserve wines
  • Food and Wine matching techniques
  • Wine Tasting of 8 wines & produce simple tasting notes

At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • self-equipped in socializing occasions with basic wine knowledge
  • make good choices of wine selection in shops, restaurants and bars
  • offer basic food and wine matching advices
  • preserve and serve wine properly
  • producing simple wine tasting notes

This course is specially designed for wine loving beginners who don't not wish to be tied up by an examination (a mandatory requirement from WSET level 1 foundation course) but would love to know more about wine in a structural approach.


The wines to be tasted in this course will not be bounded by the WSET guidelines for level 1 and therefore are more flexible, and maybe of higher quality.
